The core mission of the GCLG is to develop professional library services in the Further Education sector in Glasgow and influence the wider educational environment through innovation, good practice and collaboration. The current environment presents us with several challenges. These comprise:
(1) City-Centre Reorganisation. We must actively engage in service analysis and contingency thinking in order that we may respond effectively to the demands placed upon us by the particular shape that reorganisation of Further Education in Glasgow assumes.
(2)Symphony System development . We must develop exploitation of the Symphony Library Administration System to respond to developing pedagogy.
(3) Library 2.0. We must engage in the debate on Library 2.0 and shape this in a manner that permits us to contribute our professional skills and experience to the optimum benefit of our readership and parent organisations.
(4) Digital Repository development. We will contribute to the development of institutional and other repositories with particular reference to the development of appropriate metadata tools and processes.
(5) Investigate e-resource access management issues with particular reference to Shibboleth.
Each of these strands will challenge us to develop imaginative responses in terms of services, resources, delivery and staff skills. As we work to develop these we will engage in collaborative partnerships and ventures with those who share our vision and are best placed to assist. In order to keep those interested informed of developments we shall post regular updates on this portal and the GCL Blog.
